Proper Etiquette When It Comes To Working With Movers

Blog

Hiring on a team of professional movers should help alleviate stress, not add to it. Working with movers should come with a little planning on your end to make the process as efficient as possible. If your move will be a big one, make sure that you follow proper etiquette when it comes to working with movers. Here are four things that you can do for movers to make their job easier and make your move a success.

1. Designate Spaces in Your Home

When movers arrive, let them know where they can take breaks and which bathroom they should use. You might want to open up the kitchen area, garage, or a shaded area for water breaks and to cool down. While movers won't necessarily ask for these things, this will help them get their job done and they won't have to look for alternatives during breaks.

2. Offer Up Lunch

If your move is a big one, don't forget that movers will be there all day. While it isn't necessary for a quick move, ordering sandwiches or a pizza is a nice gesture to keep the day moving along. Workers won't have to seek out meals off-site and will be grateful that you made their day a little easier. Check with the foreman at the beginning of the day to see when movers plan to break for lunch and if there are any dietary restrictions.

3. Don't Forget to Tip

While tipping isn't mandatory, it is a good idea to do so, especially if there are multiple movers or your move is especially difficult. If the moving company doesn't include a tip or service fee, be sure to tip what you feel is appropriate for each worker. Usually ten to twenty dollars is a good estimate for a one day move.

4. Let Movers do Their Job

While you might be nervous about your things, remember that movers are the professionals and you don't need to orchestrate the move. Label boxes, help with a few tips on where items should end up, and then stay out of the way unless questioned on specifics. Movers will need your input on something, but it is important that you don't get in the way and make the move take longer.

In order to have the most efficient move possible, try to do what you can to make things easier for movers. Movers are professionals and don't expect extra support on your end, but if you want to be a good customer then try to help them out. Remember that moving is tough, so it can a nice gesture to be kind to those that are doing the heavy lifting for you. For more tips, contact a company like SC Moving.

alternative uses for storage units

Storage facilities are good for more than just long-term storage for items that you just don't have space for in your home. I have used our local storage facility many times over the years for all sorts of things. When we had our hardwood floors refinished, I moved all of the furniture and things into the storage unit. When my son was getting ready to head off to college, we stored all of the things for his dorm room in the storage unit. This blog will give you several ideas about how you can make a storage unit work for you.
